What is the Fascia?

The Fascia is a wooden board that finishes off the roof line. The fascia is connected to to the trusses or ends of the rafters. If a home is equipped with gutters, they are secured to the fascia. While it doesn’t seem like this is a significant portion of the roof, it does play an active role in protecting the roof from moisture. They are not only functional, but it is the finishing part of your roofline and is meant to look nice.

Fascia Repair or Replacement?

As the fascia is a facing element to the weather, it takes the full brunt of it. When exposed to harsh weather conditions overtime, the fascia can begin to rot, which will then spread to other parts of the roof causing more problems.

To determine repair or replacement - first, you need to identify the source of the problem. If you don’t address the source of the fascia board rotting, you’ll continue to experience this problem. It will likely only get worse and cost you more money long term. Gutters can pull away from rotting fascia boards and water can penetrate and damage the home’s interior.

 

Many times if the damage to the fascia is centralized we can cut out and patch that area with a quick and simple repair. In a worst-case scenario, the fascia can actually start to come away from other roofing components, in which case might require a full fascia replacement.

As a homeowner, your fascia is easy to visually observe. Make sure there are no broken or sagging areas, and keep a look out for any birds or animals that may be building a nest in between your gutters and fascia. We recommend clearing any leaves or debris in your home’s gutters twice a year. This helps to prevent damage or rot to your fascia.
